THE RED CANARY, named after legendary female jazz vocalists from the Harlem Jazz Movement of the ’20s and ’30s, offers “Real. American. Comfort” in Chicago’s River West neighborhood. The decadent parlor room features sexy decor elements with a masculine edge, including a vaulted ceiling, stunning chandeliers, private balconies, exposed brick, damask fabrics and bold hues. “Chef de Comfort” Daniel Tolentino designed the winter menu with familiar favorites in mind, offering soul-satisfying fare such as Grilled Cheese and Chunky Tomato Soup, Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Mashed Potatoes, Baby Back Ribs and Chicken Potpie. Chef Tolentino incorporates local, seasonal and sustainable products in The Red Canary’s “scratch kitchen” – the only item you will find in the freezer is the homemade ice cream. Desserts are a must try, featuring retro favorites such as the Goose Island Root Beer Float, Banana Split and Baked Apple Pie. The Red Canary’s impressive selection of libations includes an extensive list of classic cocktails, wine and craft beer. Stop in for dinner Monday through Saturday, or enjoy a leisurely weekend brunch while sipping bottomless mimosas and bloody marys. The Red Canary’s tree-shaded 2,000-square-foot enclosed garden offers seasonal alfresco dining. The upstairs lounge, complete with dual balconies, full bar and a separate entrance, can accommodate private gatherings up to 200 people.
