Baconfest Chicago Is Coming!
(Posted by Helen Rosner, 3/31/2009)
You might not have heard of Baconfest Chicago before now, but believe us when we say it will change your life. The brainchild of pork belly fans Michael Griggs, Andre Vonbaconvitch, and Seth Zurer, Baconfest is a work in progress that the trio expect to unleash on the city sometime this fall.

For now, most of what they’ve got is a website, a logo, and a dream: They’re thinking “up to 25 artisanal bacon producers selling/giving away their best slices,” Griggs told us. But that’s not all: “We’re going to invite local restauranteurs to show up with their best and brightest bacon recipes – appetizers, desserts, liquors, liqueurs, beers, etc. We’ll encourage family style events during the day and bands at night (one day, hopefully, The Bacon Brothers). We’ll have an amateur bacon cook off. As well as bacon themed contests – best picture of you and a slice of bacon, best bacon art project, best song about bacon, bacon grease paintings, etc. In short, a celebration of all things bacon.”

Right now the team is trying to secure a venue (“While we’d like to have Baconfest operate like a street festival,” Griggs said, “we want to make sure the Chicago winds and weather are kept at bay”), as well as get sponsors, restaurateurs, and other bacon-purveyors on board. (Risque Cafe, Weiner & Still, are you reading this?)

Once you’re done jumping up and down in your seat with excitement, you can show your support for this fatty, salty, crunchy endeavor by joining the official Facebook group.
